Accommodation at Cape Schanck Light Station offers you a rare opportunity to stay in a working Light House in the best address on Mornington Peninsula – so be sure to book your accommodation in advance.
At Cape Schanck Bed and Breakfast fixings are supplied so that you can wake up early and head off on walks, or sleep in late and take breakfast at your leisure. Linen is supplied. Cottages have full kitchens so you can prepare meals.
The nearest villages are about 20 minutes away by car, so we recommend you stock up on some supplies before you arrive. Cape Schanck’s grounds close to the public around 4pm and then you have private access to parklands. You will be provided with a gate key to enter and exit Light Station grounds should you decide to go out for dinner.

There are 4 options for accommodation with 3 featuring self-contained cooking facilities. Groups wishing to book all accommodation for family reunions and small business functions are welcome.
Head Keepers Cottage
Traditionally, the Light House Keeper lived in this 3 Bedroom Cottage. There is living room with an open fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table, and a large verandah opening onto the light house grounds. The 3 bedrooms have 2 Queen-size beds and 4 Single beds sleeping a maximum of 8 people. The bedrooms are large and provide heating and cooling. This is a historic building that was finished in 1859. You have think limestone walls of the same quality used to build the light house. There is an open expanse of grass bordered by bush. In addition to a complete kitchen, there is also an outdoor BBQ.

The Inspectors Room
In the old days, light house inspectors often arrived unannounced and stayed several weeks. The Inspectors Room is a comfortable room with a queen bed and ensuite bathroom, but it doesn’t have the kitchen facilities of the other cottages. This room is more like a motel suite. The Inspectors Room is attached to the Head Keepers Cottage (where the keeper could make sure the inspector was well looked after).
Motel Style Accommodation – Sleeps up to 2 Guests
Museum Cottage
This cottage is a separate timber building is also a fully self-contained with One Bedroom that has a queen-size bed and two single beds. This is a great space for a small family and it’s also popular with couples looking for a romantic holiday with a little extra space.
Self-Contained Accommodation – Sleeps up to 4 Guests
Red Cottage
Takes it’s name because this is a red brick building that was added to Cape Schanck Lightstation in 1929. The Red Cottage has 3 large bedrooms and sleeps up to 8 guests. There are 2 Double beds and 4 Single beds. The Red Cottage has a separate lounge and a complete kitchen.
