The commercial lease agreement between Parks Victoria and Australian Pacific Lighthouse for the operation of accommodation and tours at Cape Schanck Lightstation has expired and, under the State Government’s Leasing Policy for Crown Land in Victoria 2010, cannot be further extended. As of 4 May 2016 Parks Victoria will assume day to day operational management for the site until a new Expression of Interest for a commercial lease is developed and offered. Parks Victoria is committed to maintaining general site visitor access to the reserve and facilitate appropriate use and enjoyment of the heritage features and setting. Free visitor access into the Lightstation Reserve will be provided soon after 4 May 2016, and visitors will be able to access and explore the reserve grounds daily, during normal park opening hours.  The nearby carpark, picnic areas and toilets are open while access to the surrounding scenic features via walking tracks, lookouts and boardwalk at Cape Schanck remain unchanged.
